is a city located in Orange County. It lies 60 miles north of New York City, and 90 miles south of Albany. It is a principal city of Poughkeepsie-Newburg-Middletown metropolitan area. Newburg served as the headquarters of the Continental Army. The area was explored by Europeans in 1609, when Henry Hudson stopped by the area during his expedition up the river. The first settlers came into the area in 1709, by German Lutherans.
The city is home to the first Edison power plant. It was also the first cities in the country to fluoridate its water. The city also had an important role in television history.

- Beacon Mountain: Located behind the City of Beacon lies the highest peak of the Hudson Highlands. Beacon Reservoir is the main water source of Newburg. It is located between North Beacon and Scofield Ridge, which is the highest peak in Putnam County.
- Mount Gulian: Also a registered National Historic Landmark, it is an 18th century Dutch Manor house. Mount Gulian lies on the Hudson River, in the town of Fishkill. The house had a significant role in the American Revolutionary War. It served as a headquarters of Major General Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben during the war.
